Description
Maintain your snowboard's performance with this easy-to-follow waxing guide. Enhance your ride with smooth gliding on snow by applying the right wax using simple techniques and everyday tools.
Items
- 1Snowboard wax
- 1Snowboard iron
- 1Plastic scraper
- 1Nylon brush
- 1Base cleaner (optional)
- 1Soft cloth or brush
- 1Workbench or snowboard vise
Steps
- 1. Gather Supplies
Start by collecting all the necessary items for the waxing process. Ensure your working area is well-ventilated and free of any dirt or debris to prevent contamination of the snowboard's surface.
- 2. Clean the Base
Use a soft brush or cloth to remove any old wax, dirt, and debris from the base of your snowboard. For a thorough clean, you can apply a base cleaner, then wipe and let it dry completely.
- 3. Secure the Snowboard
Place the snowboard on a stable workbench or snowboard vise with the base facing upwards. Make sure it is firmly secured to prevent it from moving while you apply the wax.
- 4. Heat the Wax
Hold a block of wax against a snowboard iron. Turn the iron on and hold it at a temperature that melts the wax but doesn't smoke, usually between 100°C to 150°C (212°F to 302°F). Drip the wax onto the snowboard's base by touching it lightly to the iron.
- 5. Spread the Wax
Using the iron, gently spread the dripping wax over the snowboard's base in a smooth, even layer. Start from one end and move to the other, covering the entire base. Keep the iron moving to prevent overheating any spot.
- 6. Let the Wax Cool
After applying the wax, allow the snowboard to cool at room temperature for at least 30 minutes. The wax should harden completely before proceeding to the next step.
- 7. Scrape Off Excess Wax
Using a plastic scraper specifically designed for snowboards, scrape off the excess wax. Start from the tip and move to the tail, using gentle pressure and long strokes. Scrape until you no longer remove any wax.
- 8. Brush the Base
Finish by brushing the base with a nylon brush. Use short, quick strokes from tip to tail to improve the structure of the base and remove any remaining excess wax. This also enhances the glide of your snowboard.
