Steps

  • 1. Prepare the meat sauce

    Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add 500g of ground beef and cook until browned. Stir in one chopped onion, two minced garlic cloves, and cook until the vegetables are tender. Add 800g of canned crushed tomatoes, 170g of tomato paste, 400g of tomato sauce, and 120ml of water. Season with 2 tablespoons of sugar, basil, fennel seeds, Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, and 2 tablespoons of freshly chopped parsley. Simmer the mixture for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  • 2. Cook the lasagna noodles

    Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add 270g of lasagna noodles and cook for 8 to 10 minutes or until al dente. Drain the noodles and rinse them with cold water. Set them aside on a clean kitchen towel to cool and dry.

  • 3. Mix the ricotta cheese mixture

    In a mixing bowl, combine 500g of ricotta cheese, one beaten egg, and a sprinkle of salt. Stir until well combined. This mixture will add a creamy layer to your lasagna.

  • 4. Layer the lasagna

    Preheat your oven to 190°C (375°F). In a 9x13 inch baking dish, spread 1/3 of the meat sauce. Place a layer of lasagna noodles over the sauce. Spread half of the ricotta cheese mixture over the noodles, followed by a layer of 250g of shredded mozzarella cheese. Repeat the layers, ending with the remaining meat sauce. Sprinkle 125g of grated Parmesan cheese on top.

  • 5. Bake the lasagna

    Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil, ensuring it doesn't touch the cheese. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes, or until the cheese is golden and bubbly. Allow the lasagna to cool for about 15 minutes before serving.
